Why should I choose Kabrita goat milk formula over cow milk or soy formulas?

Kabrita has a modern-day formulation that can be compared to the formulations used in premium cow milk formulas. However, only Kabrita combines this formulation with the natural benefits of goat milk. Goat milk has a number of unique characteristics that make it an excellent basis for infant nutrition:

  • It is naturally easy to digest (due to a unique fat and protein composition)
  • It is naturally rich in important nutrients such as Ca and vitamin A, and has a high bio-availability of iron.
  • It has a deliciously mild taste
Why should I choose Kabrita goat milk formula over other brands of goat milk formula?

Kabrita is the only goat milk based formula that has a modern-day composition, which is comparable to the compositions of the premium cow milk formulas in the market.

  • Kabrita contains additional whey proteins to ensure the correct amount of amino acids in the formula. This also supports the advantage of easily digestible whey protein.

The addition of whey proteins  is nutritionally recommended by experts in the field and legislated in some countries around the world.
  • Being inspired by mothers’ milk, Kabrita contains our special DigestX OPO-fatblend (also known as bèta-palmitate). Breast milk is known to contain a high amount of bèta-palmitate and contributes to the typical breast-fed stools and calcium absorption.

  • Kabrita contains the unsaturated omega-fatty acids DHA and AA (LCPUFA’s). This supports the normal eye-sight  and brain development of infants. LCPUFA’s are important structural components of the brain and retina.
  • Kabrita also contains prebiotic fibers: GOS / FOS. These fibers have a positive effect on the bacterial composition in the gut by stimulating growth of beneficial bacteria (Bifido- and lactobacilli).

Thanks to this unique combination between a modern-day composition and the natural benefits of easy to digest goat milk, you can feel secure that your little one gets all the nutrients he or she needs in a gentle way.

Is goat milk formula a safe protein source for babies?

Yes, there have been several scientific studies* that have proven goat milk is a safe protein source for babies, as long as the formula is enhanced to meet their nutritional requirements (Like with Kabrita). The same principle goes for formulas based on cow’s milk.

Goat milk naturally has  a number of unique characteristics (easy to digest, rich in nutrients and mild taste) that make it an excellent source for infant nutrition. Like milk from other mammals, raw goat milk also has shortages of some nutrients that are important for your little ones development, such as folic acid. In Kabrita these shortages have been supplemented to optimal levels to ensure your little one gets exactly the nutrients that he or she needs (the same happens with cow milk nutritional products).

* These scientific studies have been extensively assessed by the European Food Safety Authority and led to an amendment of European guidelines approving goat milk as a protein source for infant nutrition.

Does Kabrita formula contain all the nutrients my baby needs?

Yes, Kabrita formulas are specifically developed to meet the nutritional requirements of your little one. Goat milk is the main ingredient, all other ingredients are added to render a complete, modern-day infant formula.

Why is goat milk naturally easy to digest?

Goat milk is naturally easy to digest due to its typical protein and fat composition.

Goat milk protein forms a softer curd in the stomach, due to the relatively low amount of αs1-casein protein. This softer curd allows the goat milk protein to pass through the stomach and intestines in a gentle way, which may reduce discomfort.

In addition, goat milk contains a relatively high amount of short- and medium-chain fatty acids. These are easily attacked by the digestive enzymes and subsequently easily absorbed. Furthermore the fat globules in raw goat milk are smaller and therefore also easier to break down.

What other advantages can be attributed to goat milk?

Besides its easy digestibility, goat milk is well known for its high levels of nutrients, its low amount of αs1-casein and bèta-lactoglobulin (which can be involved in allergic reactions) and its pleasant taste. In addition, some people experience less phlegm when using goat milk.

Is the goat milk used in Kabrita organic?

The goat milk  we use for Kabrita formulas is not organic. Due to availability of organic goat milk, it is not possible to produce a world-wide available, fully organic goat milk formula range.

However, we do use organic goat milk for Kabrita yoghurt and fruit, which are produced in the United States and Canada.

Why is goat milk more expensive compared to cow’s milk?

The higher price of goat’s milk products is a direct result of the growing popularity of goat milk and goat milk products. Goat milk is globally rising in popularity and with it also the demand for high quality goat milk, such as goat milk from the Netherlands. At the same time the supply of goat milk has stayed more or less stable. There are around 380.000 milk goats in the Netherlands, that on average provide around 3 liters of milk a day (in comparison, there are 1.500.000 cows in the Netherlands, that on average give 25 liters of milk a day). Because goat farmers in the Netherlands are bound by limited working hours and space, they are unable to increase their supply to the level needed to meet the rising demand. This leads to a higher price for goat milk and goat milk products.

Are goat milk formulas allowed in the European Union?

Yes, goat milk formulas are allowed in the European Union. After assessing several scientific studies that have proved that goat milk is a safe protein source for infant nutrition, the European Food Safety Authority advised to change the European legislation. As a result, goat milk infant formula is allowed to be sold in the European Union since august 2013.

Why should I choose Kabrita goat milk formula over regular goat milk for my little one?

Regular cow or goat milk contains a high percentage of protein and minerals which gives a high burden to your little one’s kidneys. This can have detrimental effects for baby’s below 1 year of age!

Like milk from other mammals, raw goat milk also has shortages of some nutrients that are important for your little one’s development, such as folic acid. In Kabrita these shortages have been supplemented to optimal levels to ensure your little one gets exactly the nutrients that he or she needs (the same happens with cow milk nutritional products).

Where does the goat milk used for Kabrita come from?

Kabrita goat milk formulas are made from high quality Dutch goat milk. This goat milk is collected from a select group of Dutch goat farmers, that have committed themselves to produce the highest quality milk needed for Kabrita. You can read more about our suppliers here.

One exception is the goat milk used for Kabrita yoghurt and fruit. These are produced in the United States and Canada, by using goat milk from local goat farms that produce high quality and GMO-free goat milk.

Do you use a specific type of goat for the production of your milk?

The goat milk used for Kabrita comes mainly from the Saanen goat. This type of goat originates from Switzerland and is well known for its high quality milk.

Do Kabrita formulas contain sufficient folic acid and vitamin B12?

Yes, Kabrita formulas are enriched with folic acid and vitamin B12 to the required levels. Although goat milk is naturally lower in these nutrients than cow’s milk, also cow’s milk based formulas need enrichment with these vitamins.
